Have you ever felt like your life was on autopilot, following a script written by someone else?
I know I did.
For years, I followed the expected path: school, career, relationships—each milestone checked off like a box on a to-do list. Yet, despite outward success, I felt an overwhelming sense of emptiness and disconnection. It wasn’t until I hit a breaking point that I realized I needed to rewrite my story, to find a life that truly resonated with who I am. This is the story of how I went from feeling trapped and unfulfilled to embracing a life filled with purpose, joy, and genuine happiness.
The Scripted Life
I wasn’t sure what to do with my life, so I followed the typical route: go to school, find a job, get married, buy a house, have kids, and then enjoy life after retirement.
I hated that my life seemed already planned out.
Not knowing any better, I got a job and started living the life everyone said I should.
From the outside, my life looked great. I had a decent job with a good salary, a nice apartment, good relationships, and a lovely girlfriend. It seemed like I was on the “right path.”
But the truth is, I was not happy.
Some relatives told me I was ungrateful and couldn’t appreciate what I had. But deep down, I knew this life wasn’t right for me. It didn’t suit who I really was.
I felt a constant sadness inside. I kept thinking, “I can’t live like this for the next 40 years. I’d be miserable.”
So there I was, deeply unhappy with my life’s direction but unsure of how to find my true path.
The Starting Point of my Journey
I decided to take action. Instead of following others’ opinions about my life, I started to listen to my intuition.
At that time, I had already broken up with my girlfriend, so I decided to quit my job, leave my apartment, and move to a different area to search for my own path.
I heard about a life coaching school in Paris and decided to give it a try. I wasn’t interested in becoming a life coach; I just wanted answers to my questions: “Who am I?” and “What do I want to do with my life?”.
And that’s exactly what I found.
In life coaching, I learned how to help people identify:
- Their needs (what they need in life to be happy)
- Their values (the most important things in life for them, which help with making decisions)
- Their strengths (what they’re naturally good at)
- Their purpose (the kind of positive impact they want to make in the world, which acts as a compass)
By learning how to help others find answers to these questions, I found my answers too.
This was the starting point of my journey.
I began to follow my purpose and live according to my values and everything started to change.
I saw huge improvements in:
- My self-esteem
- My confidence
- My self-love
- My overall happiness
- The quality of my relationships
- My gratitude
- My appreciation of life
- My sense of fulfillment
And much more.
Key Lessons I’ve Learned
We all have a different path in life, but there’s one thing that applies to everyone:
It’s impossible to go the wrong direction as long as your actions and decisions are aligned with who you truly are.
Of course, taking on this journey required a change of mindset. Here are the main lessons I’ve learned:
- Victim vs. Creator Mindset:
- Understanding that we are 100% responsible for our lives is crucial. Instead of seeing myself as a victim of circumstances, I learned to view myself as the creator of my own life. This shift in thinking empowered me to take control and make changes.
- No One Will Come and Save You:
- Realizing that it’s my life and no one else can live it for me was a game-changer. It meant taking responsibility for my happiness and well-being, and not waiting for someone else to solve my problems.
- Practicing Gratitude Daily:
- I discovered that practicing gratitude every day significantly improved my outlook on life. By focusing on what I was thankful for, I started to see the positive aspects of each day, which made me happier and more content.
- Don’t Fear Failure:
- I learned to embrace failure as an opportunity to learn and grow. Instead of being afraid to fail, I started to see it as a natural part of the journey towards success. This mindset helped me to take more risks and try new things.
- Habits Shape Us:
- I realized that our habits shapes who we are. Developing good habits was essential for my growth and happiness. Consistently practicing positive behaviors and routines helped me to build a better life.
- 1% Better Every Day:
- Trying to make huge changes all at once can be exhausting and lead to burnout. Instead, I focus on becoming 1% better each day. This approach is more sustainable and allows me to make steady progress over time.
- Confront Your Fears:
- I found that what I truly wanted was often hidden behind my fears. By confronting and overcoming these fears, I was able to unlock new opportunities and experiences that I previously thought were impossible.
By adopting these lessons and changing my mindset, I was able to align my life with who I truly am and find happiness and fulfillment.
How do I feel about my life now?
I’m incredibly happy and grateful that I chose to honor myself and listen to my own needs and desires. People often describe me as a ray of sunshine now.
I’m so thankful for the chance I have to be alive because it allows me to experience so many amazing things. I feel fulfilled helping others find their own true path.
Every day, I wake up with a sense of purpose and joy. I’m no longer just going through the motions; I’m living a life that truly suits me. This journey has transformed me, and I’m excited to continue growing and helping others do the same.
